CBSE UGC NET Exam Pattern for July 2018

UGC NET is a national level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. By qualifying this test, postgraduate students can apply for for lecturer-ship in reputed universities and may also seek admissions for PhD Programs in Net Coordinating Universities.

The candidates who wish to appear in UGC NET Exam must have fulfilled eligibility criteria declared by Net Coordinating Institutes.

CBSE UGC NET Exam Pattern for July 2018

Pattern of UGC NET Exam Paper 2018 is classified between following categories –

Scheme of Test

1. Paper-I

This round is General Aptitude Test which consists of sections like– Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Reading, Mental Ability, and General Awareness etc. To know more about syllabus of Paper-I please click here.

There will be 50 questions each of two marks. As per the UGC NET Exam Pattern 2018 Exam, the candidates must attempt all the 50 questions.

2. Paper-II

This round will consist of 100 compulsory MCQ (Multiple choices with single correct answer) questions each of two marks.

Time Duration of Paper-I is 1 Hour whereas, for Paper-II, it is 2 Hours.

Note – Paper-II covers entire syllabus o the subject selected by the candidate.

Session Paper Marks Number of Question Duration
First I 100 50 questions all are compulsory 1 Hour (9:30 am to 10:30 am)
First II 200 100 questions all are compulsory 2 Hours (11:00 am to 1:00 pm)

The candidates will have to mark the response for the questions of Paper-I & Paper-II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the Test Booklet. Remaining Information regarding OMR sheet will be provided on Admit Card.

Selection and Cut off Procedure for UGC NET Exam 2018

1. Step-I

The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I and Paper-II as given below-

General Category Candidates – 40 marks or 40% in Paper-I, 40 marks or 40% in Paper-II.
Reserved Category Candidates – 35 marks or 35% in Paper-I , 35 marks or 35% in Paper-II.

2. Step-II

Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.

3. Step-III

Top 6% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.

4. Step-IV

A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III.
